video cd , step by step
============================
here are steps involed in creating a video cd . the key to doing so is a special convertion program called m.pack.(the software company that makes it , astate, was bought by apple as this book went to press , don't be surprised if apple winds up remaining the software .
1- export your finished imove film as a quicktime movie , as deswcribed in this chapter .
you can you whichever codec you like , but if your hard drive has the room for it. choose dv codec for the best picture quality, ( special ntsc or pal ,depending on the country you're in). for ntsc video(see page 4) , use 29.97 frames per second and a frame size of 325 by 244.
a video cd can hold about 70 minutes of video.
2- launch m.pack. drag the icon of your quicktimemovie onto the mpeg-ntsc icon , as shown in 12-11 if you;ra in europe , australia , a another country whose tv system uses the pal standard instead.
3- double-click the mpeg-1 icon you just used .
the settings dialog box appears , with tabs along the top (figure 12-12)
4-- click the multiplexer tab , and the turn on the toast-ready check-box. drag the slider to the video cd setting.
this step assumes that adaptec toast is the cd burning softwrae provided with your cd burner . make any other settings changes you like , as decribed in the m.pack manual .
5- click ok . click start .
m.pack now converts your quicktime movie into a special file format that toast can use to burn a video cd . the conversion takes quite a bit of time about 20 minutes per one minute of your movie. if your movie is composed od severl different sections prepare the other section movies in the same way.

6- quit m.pack launch toast
as decribed earlier , toast( www.adaptec.com ) or an equivalent program , is included with almost every cd-rom burner .
7- choose format-> video cd . click data , and in the following dialog box , click" one or more mpeg steams " click ok"
now a special list box appears postion the toast window so that you can see the icon of your movie segment in the finder .
8- drag the icon of your movie segments into the list window.
this process should soud familiar ( see figure 12-10)
( you can also click add , and the navigate to , and double click , each segment .)
the order in which you drag , or select , your quicktime files is important- it determines the order in which they'll run. back-to-back , when you play the resulting video cd .
at this poit, consider clicking the check speed button to make sure that your cd-rom burner will be fast enough to burn this kind of cd .
9- insert a blank cd into the cd burner , click write cd . in the following dialog box , click write disc.
don't click write secssion , even though that's the highlighted button , the video cd won't work if you do so .
now toast goes about business of recording the video onto the cd . after about 20 or 45 minutes ( depending on the speed of your burner and how it;s connected to your mac), the deed is done. your click pops uot of the burner and how it's connected to your mac) the deed is done . your disk pops of uot of the burner like toast frome a toaster ( get it's)
now the cd is ready to play , either on your mac or in a dvd player attached to your tv .
